Trump, the president-elect, has made threats to deport all illegal immigrants, ban muslims from our country, and build a wall on the Mexican border. He is also known for his many degrading comments made towards women. To Democrats, he was known as a source of all evil. Trump was like a computer, managing to program all his supporters to think the way he does. Hillary Clinton is not perfect either. She was the Democratic candidate that supported ideals such as equality to minorities, pro-choice, and preventing climate change problems (“Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton on the Issues”). To the Republicans, she was seen as a liar, a criminal, untrustworthy, and even a murderer for her acts against the Benghazi troops and the email scandal. Clinton was caught using her private email to send and receive government based emails, almost 31,000 at that (Zurcher). Whether they share the same ideals or different ideals, respecting others opinions is what keeps us together. After election results were released, many Clinton supporters accused the people who voted for Trump of being racist and homophobic. Those who voted for Clinton were labeled “baby killers” regarding abortion laws. As a citizen of the United States, democracy is not something that should be taken for granted. You get the chance to have an input in the way our government is run and there is no reason you should feel degraded by what other people have to say about your choice. In order to mend the divide of political parties, the best option is to respect other’s ideals. Nobody requires you to agree with your friends, families, teachers or what you hear on the news. Forming your own opinion based on your beliefs is what is strongest for the nation. Kindness and respect for others were two important aspects that were forgotten about when this election was carried out. To unite our nation once again, realize that we have elected Trump, and if you like it or not, he is the man who is the face of our country. His goal is to do what is best for the United States and with that, the best option is to stand by
