Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 at Shadwell, Virginia. In his early life he was one of ten other children and was the third eldest child in his family. His family was one of the most prominent in the planter elite in Virginia. As a boy he enjoyed playing in the woods, reading, and practicing his violin. He did not begin his education until the age of nine, and finished at the age of 27. At the age of 29 he married Martha Wayles Skelton. Thomas had six children with his wife before she passed away in 1782. Thomas went to the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg Virginia.
