Thomas Jefferson was a well-educated man at his time, such as Benjamin Franklin in the colonies. By the age of nine he had already began to study Latin, Greek and French. Thomas Jefferson is a Federalist and his opponent Alexander Hamilton is an Anti-Federalist. A Federalist is someone who supports the community to create a social government and an Anti-Federalist is someone who does not trust the community and wants to make a national government. Thomas Jefferson made a big impact on the United States in the 1770’s such as The Declaration of Independence, the Louisiana Purchase, and The University of Virginia. The Louisiana Purchase was a big change to the colonies. It expanded their land and gave them flat land to work on and make family farms, public schools, town halls, and churches for people who want to make little towns in the plains. When Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana territory he sent someone named Louis and told him to explore the territory that he has purchased and comeback with information about it. Thomas told Lewis that he could bring a friend along for the expedition and the person he has chosen is a man named Clark. Lewis asked Jefferson if there is a river that they can follow that takes them all the way to the west (like the Mississippi river in the East), but there is no river that goes from Louisiana all to way to the west because there is no North West passage that people have been thinking of, but there is a river that helps bring them halfway to the territory which is the Missouri River. So Jefferson gave them a group of people to go with them on their adventure to explore the western hemisphere. Over the course of the expedition, they came across 50 different Indian tribes. They quickly learned how many different definitions there really were for the word Indian. Some of the tribes had never seen a white or black man before Lewis and Clark. It does not matter what people think of him now because he is already dead so it does not matter anymore. Even though Thomas Jefferson helped America politically, economically, and socially. Politically he wrote the Declaration of Independence and help from congress, he was elected president, and helped shaped the government. Economically he bought the Louisiana Purchase from Napoleon Bonaparte, made a group called the Corp of Discovery, and stopped pirates in Northern Africa. Socially he made the University of Virginia, tried to abolish slavery, and fought for religious freedom. So he is one of the great presidents we have in America since he did all of these things for the nation that we still use today. He helped shape, structure, and create a nation that is different from everyone else’s government. Great Britain, France, and Spain had a feeling that they were going to corrupt because the plan they had for their government was new and sounded like it was going to fail and make them venerable for them to take the land. The new government system worked and the Unites States are better than Great Britain, France, and Spain put together. Which made them surprised that there new government system worked and more efficient than the old government
