Today, you can flip a switch to light a room, watch a video by pressing a few bottoms, and listen to music with a few clicks. Life wasn't always like this. Before Steve Jobs came along with the iPhone, iPad, iPod, Macintosh, or Pixar, there were other inventors who helped slowly build our world today. One of them was Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison didn't live the most perfect life, he was almost deaf, had little actual education and was poor in his childhood, but that didn't stop him from inventing many things that we use or contribute to what we use in our daily lives today. As much as I love the Apple products, Thomas Edison made a greater impact than Steve Jobs.

None of this would have exist if it wasn't for Thomas Edison. In 1877, Edison invented the phonograph. Previously, inventors have patented devices that allows you to record sound but Edison’s phonograph allowed you to do more than just record sounds, you could play them back. Using a tinfoil-coated cylinders with two needles attached to it, one to record sound and one to play back sounds, Edison recorded “Mary had a little lamb”. When he spoke into the mouthpiece, the sound vibrations of his voice would be indented onto the cylinder by the recording needle which could be played back. This invention caused an uproar. The phonograph was put into toys or dolls so they “spoke” or “sang” to children. They were also used in music boxes and photographic books allowed blind people to read. Edison’s phonograph has made a huge impact on society back in the 19th century but even today, when we listen to any audio recording, it's thanks to Edison. But, you can't have a movie or video with just a soundtrack and no visuals or pictures. After inventing the phonograph, he invented the Kinetograph, which led to the birth of movies, videos, clips. Although he wasn't the first one to invent a motion picture camera, his invention contributed to the videos we watch today. Along with the Kinetograph, he also invented the Kinetoscope which allowed him to watch the movies he made from the …show more content…
Although it is true Edison didn't necessarily invent the thousand something inventions he's credited for, he contributed to them. Besides, Steve Jobs is also credited for a lot of current technology that he didn't create himself. For instance, the iPhone wasn't only made by Steve Jobs. There are other contributors such as Jonathan Ive. Other people might also state that Thomas Edison wasn't the first one to create a new product, but Steve Jobs wasn't either. Touchscreens existed before Apple came out with the iPhone and MP3 players existed before the iPod. Edison made playing music possible from iTune, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and the other fancy gadgets Apple released. If it wasn't for Edison’s phonograph, recording music and listening to it would've been nearly impossible. Actually, a lot of things would've been nearly impossible without Edison. When you make a phone call, the clarity possible with higher volume is due to the carbon transmitter which was created by Edison. Also, those alkaline batteries you use to power your alarm clock or flashlight are possible because Edison successfully developed the alkaline storage

Because of his extensive research and hardwork, Tesla had created a legacy for himself and invented something we still use today in our everyday lives.…

The creation of electrical recording made it possible for musicians to record their voices in a wide range of subtle sounds, which affected the style of many artists. Eventually audiences began to prefer a more natural, conventional, and intimate style of song, rather than the previous louder theater versions, which the microphone offered. Additionally, electrical recording allowed for a more natural pronunciation of words, making songs sound clearer and better. The invention of the radio also made it possible to transmit music to listeners from all over. The formation of the radio, and the new preference in style of music, ultimately impacted the arrangement of music practices.…
