Open to interpretation, leadership is a broad term. There are all kinds of leaders - Autocratic to Participative, Transactional to Transformational. Situation and contextual factor plays vital role in defining a leader. A participative leader would not function well on a autocratic leadership style. With every leader being different, Thomas Cronin has outlined seven essential qualities that defines a good leader; "Knowledge, sense of priority, integrity, compassion, create and resolve conflict, creativity and entrepreneurship, and knowledge to oneself. " (Thomas Cronin) Not every leader are liked by followers and not all liked leaders are successful. A business leader might not be a good political leader and vice-versa.

Along with mandatory attendance by town's vecinos, a statue of crucified Savior was established which led to attracting outsider to the town. The compassion the leaders had for the religion and their understanding for their people reflected the seven qualities mentioned by Cronin. The town was trying to grow and the leaders vision and knowledge was driving Saltillo to the direction of social, economic and religious hub that was expanding from north to east. Similarly, the way Dr Teja has portrayed the Spanish official, they represent two other essential characters of leaders; sense of priority and resolve conflict. Concerned about their chief imperial rival setting up shop close to silver mines near New Spain the established presidio mission in East Texas (Dr Teja, Saltillo Fair). While sensing the rival would get the opportunity to grow, the Spanish official idea of setting up the mission shows sense priority and quality to resolve
