War is a state of armed conflict between different countries or different groups within a country. People go to war for different reasons like power which means that someone would go to war so that if they win they can claim territory or take over land that belonged to the opponents. A country might also go to war because they want to defend themselves as another country could be trying to invade them; they need to protect their country and the people in it. I think that war is wrong because as a Christian, I believe that going into war means that you will most likely end up killing someone which I believe is wrong in any given situation because you can’t take what you didn’t give. The aim of Just War Theory is to provide a guide to the right way for states and countries to act in potential conflict situations. It only applies to states or countries and not to individuals however an individual can use the theory to help them decide whether it is morally right to take part in a particular war. A Christian would agree with the Just War theory because it gives a reliable guide of what is acceptable when war is to be broken out (and there was also wars in the Bible like in Deuteronomy 20 when Israel was told that they will be going into war. Also in 2Chronicles 32). For example, war must be the last resort which means that you must have tried other options like talking it out to solve the problem before you engage in war. If you do go into war, you must avoid killing civilians as they are innocent and have done nothing wrong. A Muslim would agree with the just war theory because it has similarities to the rules of Jihad. For examples you are not allowed to kill any women, infants, children, elderly people, and sick people as they too are innocent and have done nothing wrong. They also both say that the war must be fought with good intentions; for the Muslims, the war must be fought because they are trying to obey Allah and do what the Qur’an says. A Just war must be fought with the intentions that after the war is over, the outcome should make everyone’s lives better and easier. Someone might argue that war is right because without it, there would be a greater evil in the world that no war could end. They would also say that whenever there is war, new technology is developed which puts us ahead of our time, for example in WWI tanks were created then in WWII bombs and machine guns were used.
