Those patents did not just come over night. He worked hard for those patents, “One thing that becomes apparent from Edison’s habits and cognitive dissonance about sleep is his extreme compulsion for productivity”(Popova). Edison preferred to work in his lab than go to sleep in his bed. He had a sleep schedule of four to five hours each night. Hard work and little sleep: that is the basis on which America was built. For Edison, a lab is what started it all. His passion for creating the phonograph displayed effort and his love for his craft. He never stopped on an invention; he continued until it was completed (US Energy Information Administration). Henry Ford is best known for the creation of the first car and assembly line. The car changed the means of transportation forever in history. The assembly line was also revolutionary because of how it provided hundreds and thousands of inexperienced workers with jobs. Even though Henry Ford is one of the most revolutionary inventors to ever live, Thomas Edison represents the American Icon in a way that not only shows his revolutionary inventions, but his work ethic and mind set. 3 to 4 hours of sleep per day was a little sacrifice Thomas Edison made for his greatness. He tricked his own internal clock into thinking he had more energy than he truly had (Popova). His mind is regarded as first
