This Year Success

Was this year a success for me? There are plenty of factors that can have an effect on your life. Think about the most significant factors that have either made this year a success, or not such a success, and why that might be.

Overall, I say this year was quite successful for me. I say there are many significant factors that were apparent this year to have me standing where I am today because without them, this year wouldn’t be as success as it is. The number factor is probably my supporters such as my families, friends, and teachers because they are the ones who teach me these important concepts I will take to high school, encourage/ motivate me to try my hardest if I want to succeed in life, and much more. My family are the ones who care

To be bluntly honest, seventh and sixth grade year wasn’t as good as I anticipated because I didn’t really learn anything in my reading classes. The number one thing I learned in this class is annotations because annotations actually do more than they appear. They assist me to stop and re-think about what I just previously read, which is essential because it my brain refreshes on the event that just happened again. This is a skill I will for sure take on in my future years of schooling because this skill is the skill that improves my thoughts of literature and other factors along these lines. Another thing I learned in reading class this year is importance of reading because reading is what basically leads to me being successful. If it wasn’t more reading, I would more likely fail academically, physically, and mentally. In relation to this, I don’t think I ever read this many books in a year, which is phenomenal because it positively impacts myself. So, thanks to Mrs. Heinsman more all the book raffles because that’s where I get my book recommendations from! Finally, the last thing I learned in this class is techniques of you can include in reading such as annotations which has already been mentioned, compare and contrast, predicting, and more. This all comes to play when I write a final essay in this class because it is the time where I stop and reflect on everything in the book thinking in many ways. Either is comparing or contrasting different characters or predicting what will happen in a sequel or any other reading techniques, it improves my writing skills as well. Reading was definitely one of my favorite classes as I continue to not be stressed out for the class, be interested, able to collaborate with my peers, and of course

I believe my greatest success was receiving honors at Argosy University. I think this was my greatest achievement because it’s something that’s gets me a little closer to my goals. If it wasn’t for that boost of motivation I received, I don’t believe that I would be as encouraged. I needed the boast so I can stay positive and stay on top of what is most important. An achievement like that takes hard work and when I saw it pay off, it made me so happy.…

Made it through another semester This semester I learned that some of us read and write more then we think we on a daily basis. There are different ways of reading and writing outside of the classroom. 3) While working for Boys & Girls Club of Metro Richmond at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School, the most meaningful accomplishment had been when my 8th graders received their 3rd report card of the year. Each and every 8th grader I had that year received honor roll or scholar roll. My success would be measured by the smiles on their face and still to this day showing me their report cards. They are 10th graders now.…

The story that I want to share is, the basic yet often talked about transition, between high school and college. High school was so much easier for me back then, you could get away with so much more and not worried about homework as much. Now in college, it feels like I’ve sat down for the longest, scariest, most agonizing rollercoaster of my life. English in high school wasn’t much of a concern to me. Teachers didn’t persist on teaching students good writing habits or the depth of what writing can go into, like they do in college.…

I would say that the development of my reading throughout the semester was a puzzle being constantly worked on and added to. I started out the semester at the point in the puzzle where the edges were complete and I could see the big picture being revealed to me. I knew the basics of reading and interpreting and had the necessary skills to effectively tackle whatever piece of literature chosen for us. However, I was missing major sections of the puzzle and had gaps in my knowledge. I never had an appreciation for poetry or quite as deep of understandings of literature that this class helped me to achieve.…

My ability to read and to critically think has greatly improved this semester. This is due to the example texts which we read in class. Short stories and excerpts introduced me to different styles of writing and difficulty levels. As we discussed them in class, I found myself comparing them to other texts and thinking about the negatives and positives of each one. I have been able to apply this skill to my own, independent, reading, so that I now think critically of everything I read and read new genres as well.…

As an English learner, I have experienced many challenges during the learning process, yet I haven’t given up my hope. Writing had always been one of my difficult challenges, but the desire inside of me learning new things always push me to accept the challenges. In fact, learning a new language stays always challenging to every person. However, English 111 class has taught me many things that I never thought I will do it. The first assignment that we did a reading response to Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Draft” has taught me that people learn from their mistakes, and nobody is perfect.…

Overall my reading experience this year was very productive because I was able to grow as a reader. I have noticed that I have become more insightful and attentive when I read because I have become more able to create post-its that analyzes the text more carefully and thoroughly. I also found it more easier to create post-its because I notice more important plot points and events that directly correlates with important character traits. My favorite literary work throughout the year was “Romeo and Juliet” because it was very dramatic and the plot was very “swingy”. I also enjoyed the play format because it felt more dynamic due better pacing that most other books do not have.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
