Each developmental area should be met in ways that help the students grow internally and externally. We as educators must create fun and innovative ways for students to express their physical, psychological, and cognitive development. For example, providing the students with opportunities that explore who they are, understanding what learning style(s) they possess by creating different activities, expand on cognitive abilities with different assessment and projects, and use more teaching strategies that move away from the constant “lecture-style.” Aside from knowing the developmental areas of the student, another aspect is the structure and characteristics of the middle school. Middle school grades range from 6 th to 8 th and educators are categorized by interdisciplinary teams (an English, Math, Science, Social Studies teacher). There is typically a flexible block schedule that allows students to receive required content knowledge and exploratory courses (art, music, technology, band, chorus, etc.). It is my job as the students mentor and guide to ensure an environment where the students are safe, learn all of the required material, receive proper materials based on their individual needs, and having fun. I will ensure that each student’s developmental needs are being met. I understand that the development of young adolescents is important, so it is my job to make sure that I collaborate will school personnel and parents to provide equitable needs for each student. As an advocate for each student, I will make sure that my students are provided with a developmentally responsive curriculum that enriches their knowledge, enhances their skills, and encourages equitable experiences. In doing so, I plan to sharpen my educational tools as well. Within the next three years, I plan to have my Bachelors’ of Arts in Middle Level Education, receive G/T and AP endorsements, and have my Masters’ of Education in Language and Literacy. Language and Literacy is a big program area for a lot of students, so I plan to incorporate different reading strategies and techniques that will build my student’s literacy skills and enable them to be proficient
