Being environmentally conscious has been the focus of many people for several years, and by judging how much the media has begun to cover such a topic, it will be the concern of more and more people as time passes. Since this planet is the only one we have to live on so far, we need to take care of it the best we possibly can before it’s too late to fix our mistakes. To start, each person will need to see the reason behind taking care of our planet, which is that global warming is a legitimate issue, and every single person on the planet can either make a positive or negative impact on it. Each of the essays I evaluated spoke of different issues regarding or touching on global warming that I had not previously thought too much about, and effectively…

Even though climate change is intimidating, people should still participate in activism. Take the character Tyrone Tierwater, from the short story "The Siskiyou, July 1989", for example. Tyrone was terrified, but he still took the initiative to get involved and protest. Although the protest was seemingly unsuccessful, it still made an impact. After the protest is over Tyrone refers to it as “... a joke, a big joke, the whole thing” (Boyle 33).…

I asked Mercedes if there was something she felt she could do to help this cause and she replied “ something I would change is how educated I am on this issue.” I think Mercedes and Michael showed that education about climate change in the United States is very poor in some states. I thought this was peculiar because Mercedes and Michael both are form my home state Oklahoma. I asked Michael if he knew anything about climate change and he replied, “ in high school there was a science class I took and we talked about how global warming was bad but I never paid…

by Naomi Klein the significant action for climate change that she is calling for is revolutionary because in her perspective global capitalism is the root of the climate change problem. The dismantling of capitalism would be destructive to the world that we know now. Without knowing what significant action that Craven is calling for, other than just some action towards combating climate change, it is impossible to make and educated and well informed decision about it. Oversimplifying a complicated issue in order to make a decision about should not be the way in which we solve it, so discussing climate change in the terms of risks and risk management is just not feasible without knowing what kind of actions that would be taken. Decisions should not be made by guessing what our…

He suggests that normal people should be the ones to start acting and do simple strategies like changing their light bulbs to be more eco-friendly. The statistics are effective and can show the reader why they should be the one to step up and be the change. Additionally, the author uses his personal experience to explain why people are not putting an end to wildlife destruction. “...…

serves as Michael Mann’s line of personal defense and vindication. His novel is as much of an appeal of his own decency as it is a validation of climate change and its supporters. Mann effectively dismantles counter-arguments and reveals climate change deniers’ unstable footing on unjustified grounds. Most of his antagonists supplement political backwash and unsound science in order to fabricate a viable alternative stance. Michael Mann utilizes a powerful arsenal of defense; he follows the illogicality of his skeptics by casting doubt on the ethicality of their supports as well as illuminating their selective “cherry-picked” science.…

Imagine a barren wasteland, incapable of supporting the growth of any form of life and overpopulated with more people than it could sustain: this is the future of the earth. But, this is not just another scene from a sci-fi film of a population that has expedited their vital resources, but the reality for the “over 7 billion people” who populate the home we call earth (Hardaway 4). A considerable amount of blame is placed on global warming which is an “increase in the temperature of the lower atmosphere“; however, global warming has not garnered enough acceptance from some political officials and skeptics due to the term’s ambiguity (“global warming”). Global warming is often confused with climate change and although these terms sound alike…

In his article, Novacek (2008) states that if the world’s inhabitants start to make more deliberate and unified changes to protect forest and wildlife preserves, decrease harmful gas emissions and continue to make technological advancement towards a better future, the Earth could be restored to it’s former glory. Additionally Novacek (2008) notes that “the first step in dealing with the problem is recognizing it for what it is” (pg. 467). Some still fail to acknowledge that climate change even exists and the full support of Earth’s inhabitant is essential in making the necessary changes against climate change. Lee (2009) does not give much hope in his article beyond saying, “For starters, we should redouble our efforts to slow down global warming and undo the damage humanity has already done to the environment. Every little bit helps, so by all means, hassle your senator and recycle those bottles” (pg. 473).…

This also showed that there is much more to just raising awareness and making people sign a pledge to help the environment. This conveyed how such a huge issue on a global scale can become too big for an individual to deal with and how all the stresses of living – paying the mortgage, raising children, keeping a marriage from falling apart – can push these issues to the back of your mind until they land on your very…
