To make matters worse, a new threat has been discovered: thirdhand smoke (accumulating secondhand smoke that reacts and becomes more toxic). It is a health threat to everyone. In fact, if a place once allowed smoking, nicotine residue has reacted with nitrous acid (HONO) to make tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs), which are strong carcinogens
This study investigated the effects of thirdhand smoke on the liver, lung, and behavior of a human. A mouse was the guinea pig in this experiment, which showed similar effects to those found in children exposed to secondhand smoke. First, thirdhand smoke

It has been reported that e-cigarette aerosols are also deposited in the alveolar space (5). Therefore we will also use human and murine primary ATII cells in our study. Our Preliminary Data obtained from AEC and ATII cells demonstrate that aerosolized nicotine delivered by e-cigarettes in concentrations which mimic e-cigarette use in humans induces mitochondrial dysfunction and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Moreover, we also found that e-cigarette aerosol with cherry flavors contains diacetyl and benzaldehyde by mass spectrometry analysis, which may cause epithelial respiratory injury. Nicotine with cherry and chocolate flavors in e-cigarettes caused cytokine release, cell apoptosis and oxidative stress in human primary AEC and ATII cells (Preliminary Data).…

Vaporizers have been around in various forms since the 1960s, though, in that era the sets were more of the tabletop variety and not very pocketable. Chinese pharmacist Han Lik is largely credited as the modern vaporizer's inventor (also called "e-cigarettes"), apparently finding the inspiration after his father died from cancer. The device, then known as Ruyan (means "like smoke") was a hit in his homeland, so naturally it made its way to the US in the mid 2000s. "Vaping" -- the common term for using a vaporizer -- is simply applying heat to a liquid which creates vapor. Breathing in the nearly-odorless vapor gives the smoker their nicotine hit.…
