In Canto VI, Dante wakes up in the third circle of hell, which is Gluttony. In Gluttony, Dante talks to Ciacco and finds that Gluttony is a total way of life. He also finds that Florencian political leaders are also placed much deeper in hell because of the sins that they had committed in their previous lives and they are now paying for it. In Canto VIII, Argenti was part of the Black Guelph’s, who ruled politics for a bit in Florence. Argenti was able to exile Dante, and because of this he was left to burn in the since Dante refused to help him. In Canto X, Farinata was a Florentian politician sixth circle of Hell. Farinata’s soul is being punished perpetually in fiery tombs due to his political struggles and problems he caused in his past
