Thinking Errors

For this assignment I decided to watch and interpret the show “Undercover Boss” season 4 episode 2. Throughout this episode I focused on four thinking errors, these errors were; The fundamental attribution error, availability heuristic, cognitive dissonance and normative influence. The very first thinking error I observed was the Fundamental attribution error. The hosts of undercover boss are posing a fake reality tv show on the restaurant under investigation and causing fundamental attribution error. This error is due to the fact that the employees are left in the dark and thinking one thing (That they’re on a reality show) while something else is happening, that being the filming of undercover boss. The bouncer of the Georgia restaurant soon alerts Lynch that as a bouncer he receives many complaints from the servers about being touched and harassed. Lynch is oblivious to this which is a result of cognitive dissonance. Along with the sexual harassment, the protocol for the bouncers intervening in situations like that isn’t being passed on to employees from management. The bouncers and security are left to use their best judgment and work off of little to no training. The bouncer had fallen victim to the group serving bias by blaming the failure of the restaurant's security on outside forces and taking no blame himself. After hearing this, Lynch had many thoughts that ranged from firing employees to assisting other employees in financial needs. After hearing the sob stories of employees or witnessing lack of professionalism in the workplace, Lynch’s mind is filled with mixed emotions and irrational thoughts, symptoms of cognitive
