Thinker Toys Book Report

Creativity is something that stems from the mind and is different for everyone. In fashion design and fashion merchandising, you are constantly trying to come up with new ideas. This can be difficult for many people and can become a challenge for some. The book Thinker Toys by Michael Michalko, helps students to understand how to think outside of the box and find new ways to get their creative juices flowing, as well as Andrew Tate and the Creative Blog Staff in their articles online.
Chapter eleven of Thinker Toys, Michael comes up what he calls the “idea box.” This is when you specify your challenge and then you set up a box with a few parameters in it. Under each parameter you would list variations of each one. When you finish the box, look for all the possible combinations. Doing this helps you to visualize what your options are and how to put them together to come up with something that people will like. Michael also mentions something very important that most people need to understand and that is, “new ideas and inventions are merely new combinations of existing bits and pieces” (Michalko, M). Just sitting in front of a blank paper is not going to get you mind to start thinking creatively. Many people need to have experiences in order to come up with new ideas.
