The strategy gets its name from the three stages of student action. Each stage emphasizes what students are to be doing at each of those stages. This evidence-based strategy is introduced and modeled by the teacher providing students with a structured step-by-step process, before the students use it by themselves. According to the research based, Think-Pair-Share can be used in any subject area, and it is a helpful for students with special needs, as well as, general students. English Language Learners benefit as well from this strategy as they practice language and listen to more proficient students while they are discussing questions and sharing answers. Students write 3 things that they learned or discovered during the reading, 2 things they found interesting and 1 question they have about the story (Readwritethink.org). The activity continues to engage student's reading comprehension, understanding and it also incorporates writing. Or, a jigsaw strategy, so that they engage with other students to get their perspective of the text build upon their thinking and assist in reporting out to the rest of the class(Readingrockets.org).
