ACT Aspire Essay People are faced with conflicts on a daily basis. How people respond to the conflict can impact their lives or the people around them. When people respond negatively to conflicts, the outcomes will have a bigger consequence. If people respond positively to conflict, the outcomes will have smaller consequence. In “Things Fall Apart,” Okonkwo responds negatively to conflict. He is told by an elder not to participate in the killing of Ikemefuna. The elder tells him that Okonkwo will not benefit from the actions that Okonkwo will commit. Ikemefuna looks at Okonkwo as his father, and Okonkwo sees him as a son. For example, In “Things Fall Apart,” Mr. Kaiga starts a church in the Evil Forest. No one believes that they will live. After a while, the python was killed, and it was said to be killed by someone in the church. People from the village were scaring the woman, who belonged to the church, off from the stream. Some people from the church wanted to fight back, but Mr. Kaiga said no. On page 160, the narrator says, “...Mr. Kaiga restrained them.” Because he restrained the people, he prevented a small war from taking place. Many people would have been killed. A war would cause conflict between the church and village. Another example of positive conflict concerns people’s inner thoughts. Many people get very stressed with their jobs or their school work. Stress can cause people to do worse in school, and this causes bad grades. A positive way to deal with stress is by taking a deep breath, and focusing on doing one thing at a time. When people do this, they are able to work on one subject at a time, and not stress over the other topics they need to work on. By working positively on the work, people reduce their stress and are able to work
