Based on the novel so far “Things Fall Apart”, by Chinua Achebe, the story mostly takes place in an African village In Nigeria known as the Ibo village, were the spiritual world is strongly believed to exists in its culture. The story revolves around a man named Okonkwo, a clan leader, who is widely known for his successful and powerful nature. He tries to avoid being like his father which was being unsuccessful and weak, and because of this he tries to convince himself and the society that he is the opposite of what his father once was. There are many cruel things that Okonkwo does, such as being extremely violent and showing no care of how others feel. The way he sees himself does not always turns out the way he wants it to and it affects him throughout the story. One thing that I like about this text is the scene when Okonkwo is feeling very miserable and guilty after he kills Ikemefuna. This scene is interesting because these feelings show that he has positive human emotions, despite his lack of affection, and toughness that makes up his personality. Also he tells his son Nwoye to sit with him in his obi which points out his affection for someone. Another scene that shows the positive emotions of Okonkwo is when he most certainly show feelings for his daughter Ezinma.
