She is living during a time where Islamic fundamentalist are oppressing their society to obey the rules of Islam, but Marjane is different she is not your average ten-your-old girl. She tells everyone she is going to be a prophet. And everyone thinks she is crazy. Her parents do not want her going around talking in such a manner. You begin to see the rebellious spirit in her at young age. She begins to go to protest and attend rallies with her parents to fight for their freedom, listening to punk rock, arguing with teachers and smoking cigarettes. Even though both main characters are fighting for their right of freedom and equality. Marjane in Persepolis fight way differently than Oknkwo. Where Okonkwo would do and did do whatever it would take to prove his point, and his case slice the head of the messenger of for the British. Which ultimately led his suicide in the end. Were in Marjane’s case she did things in more secrecy and did not want to get caught by anyone but as she grew older she began not to care as much. This is what led to her being sent to Vienna to live with her mother’s friend.
