These built-in components are like fingerprints, with no one’s prints being identical to another. If we did not have differences, society would mirror a dystopic society, like the way Big Brother watches over Winston Smith in George Orwell’s, Nineteen Eighty-Four. For example, everyone were duplicates of each other, having the same rationale, beliefs, as well as thoughts (Orwell, 1949). Thus, it is essential that people have their differences, no matter how subtle nor radical, in order to keep harmony within the democratic society we employ today. To begin, I would consider myself to be a creative individual, …show more content…
Each year, I had become more interested in science as I felt science is an art that has multiple answers for every question, which proves one sometimes has to work outside the box in order to reach a conclusion. In terms of writing, I had taken multiple writing courses such as College Preparation Writing (CPW), English Language and Composition (COMP), as well as English Literature and Composition (LIT). Each course taught different principles and ideas such as research papers, descriptive writing, transcendentalism, as well as comparative literature essay writing. However, I felt that as I progressed through each course that my overall writing style had become stronger than what is was previously. Thus, through high school I had developed a passion for the sciences and English. This passion is due to the extensive experiences that I had with both fields and am incredibly excited to build off of the foundation that had been laid down in high school and construct a bright future in university. I feel that high school is the place where one can take a multitude of courses to discover what field is a best fit, as high school offers courses in many fields, such as business, science, language, and the fine arts. But then, university is the place where one’s passions come to fruition as it is applied into their daily lives by taking courses tailored to their desired

English in college has been a very different class from what was described throughout the Calverton School experience. The readings themselves are similar to the International Baccalaureate program that I faced in high school; however the writing style which has been introduced is still somewhat foreign. The understanding for writing which I was accustomed to in high school has become blurred and foggy; it seems inadequate for this class. The realization that academic writing does not exclusively revolve around a set structure, such as a five paragraph essay, was difficult to accept; and continues to plague my writing. From a perspective standpoint, what has truly changed is the approach to writing is that writing is not trying to always…

I’ve always considered myself a writer. It was the one hobby I could point to and say I both loved and was semi-decent at. However, taking an AP English course such as this one changed my idea of just what a “writer” is, all the while transforming how I read, interpret, and understand the written work of others. I never expected that I would one day be unable to read something without “arguing” with it in my head, or that that hot seat would change how I felt about and approached my writing. Then again, I never thought this class would be how I learned how to cook either.…
