Some researchers are against vaccination of the children due to the vaccines containing thimerosal which can harm children’s health however some scholars believe that thimerosal used in vaccines are in very low doses that they are not extremely toxic to the child’s body. As states in Centers for Disease Control (CDC) thimerosal is a mercury (Hg)-based preservative that has been used for years in the United States for a multi-dose vaccine. Thimerosal is added to the vaccines that contained more than one dose to prevent the growth of germs like bacteria and fungi. Manufacturers use preservatives like thimerosal to prevent germ growth in the process of manufacturing the vaccinations.

Dr. Bernard Rimland in his article +The Autism Epidemic, Vaccinations, and Mercury that was published in Journal of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine indicates a group of worried parents who began looking into the mercury issue in the vaccination and they found that thimerosal used in vaccines are at levels greatly exceeding the upper limits ordered safe by the US Environmental Protection Agency which was included in a scientific paper by Bernard et al. found on the website of the Autism Research Institute (265). Rimland in his article also mentions that Sallie Bernard, the principal author of the scientific paper states that “the symptoms which are diagnostic of or strongly associated with autism itself are found to arise from mercury exposure” (265). These symptoms include the essential characteristics of autism which may include sensory trouble such as numbness in the hands, feet, and mouth, unusual response to noise, movement disorders like tow-walking, hand flapping, clumsiness and cognitive impairments (Rimland …show more content…
(Updates) refers to a study in Lancet (UK medical journal) which states “Investigators gave 40 full-term infants 6 months old and younger two or three vaccines (diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis, hepatitis B, and, in some children, Hainfluenzae type b) containing thimerosal and then measured total mercury in samples of blood, urine, and stool three to 28 days after vaccination. Blood concentrations of mercury did not rise above safe levels; mercury apparently was eliminated rapidly in the stool” (11) also indicates that there is no harm to an infant’s health from the mercury consumed through
