Thievery is a horrible crime and many people suffer from it every year. The effects of stealing are huge and very few people do it out of necessity (less than 18 percent) and even so, stealing is wrong and can be caused by underlying mental illness and the thrill can even be addicting, which shows exactly how dangerous and bad theft is.
Justice is an absolute right. No matter what, a person who steals should be punished by the state or country for setting things right. Buckling down and making arrests is the only way for us to make a change in the rising crime rates.
Every year, roughly 1 in every 11 people steal or shoplift and of those people, very few, if any, had a real reason to steal other than thrill or pleasure. Less than 17 percent of thefts happen out of necessity, that leaves 83% of theft/ stealing crimes that were done for pleasure. Shoplifting is a growing problem and it affects millions of people every year, but even worse is something called larceny or grand larceny. Larceny is not just stealing a video game or some chips, larceny is the theft of important, dangerous, or expensive items. Depending on where you live, the amount of theft to qualify you for larceny is different, though more often than not it's 750 dollars or more to qualify as larceny. At age 23, she pleaded guilty to falsifying documents and stealing many different types of prescription drugs from elderly in need, including fentanyl, morphine, hydromorphone, and hydrocodone (United States Attorneys Office, northern district of Iowa). These are powerful opioids (or pain relievers) for her own personal use.
