Throughout the book The Book Thief Leisal and Rudy had a true friendship. So, Rudy was one of the hardest people she had to say good-bye to. When Leisal saw Rudy she saw a flashback of all their amazing memories. “I watched the contenst of his soul for a moment and saw a black painted boy calling by the name Jesse Owens as he ran through an imaginary tape. This quote shows that she truly treasured all the memorized she had shared with Rudy. “Do you remember what you said to everyone on that street that day?” “You said what are you assholes looking at?” This showed no matter how harsh and mean Rosa was she still showed “tough love.” And Leisal had appreciated that very much. The last person Leisal says goodbye to was her papa the one who saved her life. “Goodbye, Papa, you saved me. You taught me to read.” (Zusak, 538) This shows that Liesal was so thankful that her papa had taught her how to read because it was life changing and life
