They Wish They Were Me Analysis

Decent Essays
The author shows how poor people can be to others and how people shouldn’t worry about what they say because they at least can say they are a better person. I like this quote because it lets other people know that people will talk about anyone, saying how much they don’t like a specific person or just trying to start mess. When people talk about me, I always just think to myself and say, “They wish they were me.” I’ve had people talk about me for many reasons. One reason is they had people talking about me because they say I had a bad attitude towards others. I can see where people are coming from with this, but I would like to tell it from my side. I am a shy person who likes to stay to myself. I’m not an outgoing person so i just decide

The “Eat me/drink me” scene has become very iconic in pop culture. But for something so heavily associated with childhood, there is a deceptively dark current running through it. In the novel, Alice is very much playing at being an adult, although the reader knows that she thinks very much like a child. Carroll’s use of understatement makes this obvious to the reader. Phrases such as, “if you cut your finger very deeply with a knife, it usually bleeds,” and “if you drink much from a bottle marked “poison,” it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later,” hint to the reader that Alice has a concept of consequences but may not be able to foresee them accurately (Carroll 10).…

Throughout the entire essay three things quickly became apparent; the author did not mean this article to be formal, she felt a real sense of “This could have been me”, and she had a deep understanding of the story behind the murdered girls. The sense of “This could have been me” was very apparent throughout the essay. A prime example of this sense is shown in the following sentence “Behind the tragic elements of Regina's story, like some kind of pentimento, I saw my own.” The author shows many parallels between her experiences hitchhiking in the 1980s and the lives of the various girls that were murdered at that time. Some examples of this include when she was talking about her experience with the truck driver that pulled a knife on her.…

The Brother Grimm’s version of Cinderella has hidden meanings in the stories that teach us about how the story resembles or symbolize our society. The first symbol in the story that stood out to me the most is the stepsisters representing society 's cruelness and greed. The second symbol was the stepmother’s envy of Cinderella 's beauty, because Cinderella was more beautiful than her daughter 's. The stepmother thought that her daughter’s were not as beautiful as Cinderella and as a result she was envious of Cinderella, this represent a society dominated by envy and hate. The third symbol is the hazel tree that provided Cinderella with the wisdom and inspiration to overcome the abuse she was going through, this represents how society rewards…

The Cop and the Anthem is a short story that includes interesting morals that the reader could use within their own lives. The story takes place in downtown New York City and is centered around a man by the name of Soapy. The decision to read the story based on its interesting title that the author had given it was a very great idea. Before reading the story, the reader probably expected the story to be centered around a police officer who enjoyed music, but after reading a few lines the reader could tell it wasn't. Personally, I enjoyed the shocking ending to the story.…
