Courtney mentioned one thing that Jimmy does that used to make her angry with Jimmy. Jimmy, because he is on the spectrum has a need to be very repetitive. For example, Jimmy will listen to the same song over and over again. Instead of Courtney rejecting Jimmy’s choices and yelling at him, she lets him repeat the song and ignores the song that he has been playing repetitively. This experience has made her more attentive, caring, and she claims she has gained a tremendous amount of patience. She basically feels like she has taken a huge part in raising her brother. She feels prepared for most situations people her age feel uncomfortable with and feels like she has gained a maternal instinct since she was young helping to take care and look after Jimmy. Jimmy’s disability ultimately affected Courtney in a positive way, by showing a whole different side to mental health and the capacity and limitations we have as human beings. Her brother’s diagnosis has made her more interested in the brain and has made her question the things around us more. Overall, Courtney has a very important relationship with her brother that is crucial to his success with his disability. Jimmy and Courtney are very fortunate to be siblings with one another as they support each other very
