I formatted my paper the way I did for a specific reason. I did not make a specific argument to make a point. I wanted to make the point that there are two sides of every argument and that you do not have to pick a specific belief, instead you should be open to others belief. The fact that you wanted us to pick a specific argument about something that we may not care about or have any belief or opinion about is something that I did not want to do. I think that people should have their beliefs however they should be open to other people opinions and beliefs.…
Safinaz Elhadary Professor Massimo Verzella ESL 15 12 December 2016 Dear Dr. Massimo, At the beginning of the semester, I had many goals and objectives for this class. I wanted to become a more sophisticated reader that could critically analyze any piece of writing. I also wanted to be a more flexible writer.…
Many classmates gave me ideas that I could potentially use for my essay, feedback on resources that I was not positive about using in my essay. Although, my writing was not not great at all to begin with, I had more than enough resources to become familiar on how to accomplish the task. Being able to write a proper formatted paper at the end of the class proved to myself and increased my…

Over the last four essays, my ability to write has improved exponentially from the beginning of the year. Through the four essays I have learned valuable skills that will be the support for future essays. On the two beginning essays my ability to use vocabulary and other valuable skills was improving. By being supplied by information from the instructor, and fellow classmates I was able to spot my weaknesses in my writing and improve where improvement was needed. As the semester progress each essay improved upon the last as self reflection and reflection from others was used wisely.…
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…
From Thesis to Diving Deep When I started this class I was unable to properly write papers. My thoughts and words were all over the place making writing the papers difficult. I didn’t know how a thesis worked and I really had no idea how to use it to setup my papers and go into detail. Now with the understanding of a thesis I can write a paper and use my thesis to go into further detail. Before I didn’t know what a thesis statement was or how to use it to write my papers properly.…
Even though I know I can still improve on my writing, I feel I have the necessary tools to get better, thanks to this class. My writing process has changed a lot this semester compared to English 101 and has continued to change throughout the different writing assignments.…
I did run into a few roadblocks with the essays during the course, but it was the draft corrections that enabled me to change course and adjust for a more improved thesis statement. Even more, the final grade that I would receive on the essay was a direct reflection of my understanding of a proper thesis statement.…
In two essays following my entrance essay, thesis statements became my biggest issue. I received a ninety on my entrance essay, so naturally I assumed that any future essay would only get better. This was not the case for me at all because instead of improvement, I regressed. The only way to correct my problem was to find the issue and figure out a resolution. Over the course of the semester, I have become aware that I still need to learn to write complete, specific, and fully developed thesis statements.…
The article “Class Conflict on the Canals of Upper Canada in the 1840s” by Ruth Bleasdale discusses the social disorder of class conflict on the canals of British North America. In the 1840s numerous Irish immigrants were migrating to Canada whose sole choice was to enter the capitalist labour market and accept any wages given by the contractor. However, the unemployment rates in Upper Canada were at peak and several thousand Irish labourers were living in extreme poverty and facing starvation. The thesis of this article claims that the violence caused by the labourers was not due to irrational behaviour but class conflict caused by the economic conditions in Upper Canada.…
Even though my contributions to the intellectual life of the class might have not been the best I believe that they were helpful not only to me but to some of my peers. Specifically in the peer reviews, I felt that those were crucial to the class, because every student had the opportunity to read and analyze another’s paper. By giving helpful criticism to someone else 's paper we were all receiving a new view into the type of essay we needed to be writing, therefore giving our own essays a new point of view to revise with. Consequently, peer reviews helped me learn to communicate better because I really wanted to give constructive criticism that my peers would find helpful towards improving their essays, so that I could also receive some in exchange. For example in the last essay I wrote one of the critics that I had was that one of my paragraphs was all wrong and that it really just did not mean much.…
When I began this English course I was not the writer I am today. I wrote with several errors. I always thought I was an okay writer, but I did not realize I was not good enough to get the grades I wanted in college. I feel like I can say my writing has improved because of this class. For one I now know how to correctly do MLA format.…
I understand the importance of proof reading, researching, editing and composing my writing to create a higher quality than before I commenced this course. Effective writing is being aware of the value of taking an audience into consideration, as a writer I have learnt the importance of staying on target with your chosen audience. I found once I became personally motivated to write and pushed all doubts aside the words began to flow onto the paper. “Whatever the teaching, the writers are on their own, drawing on their experience of life, of language and of story to make meaning. Writing their story is an act of self-expression and self-validation.…
Final Exam: Self Evaluation Essay I personally can say that I have seen an improvement in my writing since my initial evaluation in the middle of the semester. During my first evaluation I was very confused with many of the general concepts the class held and it reflected in my writing. Answering the questions presented in the midterm evaluation and reviewing my first writing assignment Meta commentary pushed me to try to grasp a better understanding of assignments and ask for more helpful feedback that would benefit me in developing writing especially in the concept of methods and organization. Slowly and surely as the rest of the semester progressed forward I saw an improvement in my writing style and content.…
