Thesis Statement: Golding demonstrates the power of faith within a person verses showing off the power of your faith, through his choice of diction and through his characters. Christianity is a religion based off your faith. It is a religion where there is no physical proof nor evidence to prove what happened. It is our society in which we choose to believe in God and everything else we are taught to believe in. The Garden of Eden is a biblical story in which God creates the earth in five days, and then creates a man and a woman, Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve only had one order they must follow, and that was God forbidding them to eat the fruit of knowledge which would teach them right from wrong. One rule in relation to the novel would be “You shall not have other Gods besides me”. The boys don’t worship a God, they even created their own false God (Beast) and made sacrifices and offerings to it. This would be in relation because they did not have a “God” but they had a beast. It was something they saw as a symbol of God. “Simon is taunted by the Lord of the Flies, he bashes into the tree; A white spot on his forehead turned red and trickled” (Golding 57). Jesus was crowned with a a crown of thorns, and blood trickled down his face. You can see the resemblance between stories of Jesus and how he can relate to Simon. “Simon retreats into the wilderness to an area of beauty alone so he can get away from people” (Golding 58). Jesus went into the wilderness to pray (Luke 5:16). “Simon gathers fruit from the trees that the littl’uns couldn’t reach so they could eat” (Golding 57). Jesus feeds the 5000 with bread and fish (Matthew 36). Another commandment would be “You shall not Kill”. During the boys time on the island, they took the life of two people. The savage boys killed both Simon and Piggy. “You shall not Steal”, Jack’s tribe raid Ralph’s camp and stole Piggy’s glasses along with sticks of fire from Ralph’s fire. Or “Honor your Father and Mother”, after being on the island for some time, the boys lost their faith that they would be saved, they lost hope that their people they knew weren’t looking for them as the people probably just don’t know where the plane has crashed.
