The main idea of the book the running dream was is pushing yourself to do something you love no matter what happens. This is the main idea because this is what the main character Jessica is dealing with, seeing if she can ever do something she loves again. Jessica was in a car accident and she had to get from her knee down amputated. Jessica's passion was to run and participate in cross country. The book “The Running Dream” is about how Jessica learns how to be different and look different from everyone else. She is struggling mentally and physically without having some of her leg. Different friends and family help Jessica through different emotions about running and her having no leg. Especially Jessica's friend Rosa. Rosa is disabled herself

Throughout this chapter, we get a detailed story of how questions were asked, tests were done, and answers were found, all to prove his claim that humans were “Born to Run.” McDougall is able to persuasively argue his point through using detailed descriptions of what was done to reach this theory, clearly ordering the events that took place, and using entertaining language.
