These raw lyrics continue throughout ‘Gasoline,’ complimented by a synth-heavy production reminiscent of Chvurches. The chorus is an urgent expression of the pressures of fame: “You can’t wake up, this is not a dream / You’re part of a machine, you

The author, Halsey, uses poetic devices such as metaphors and repetition to reveal that the true meaning of “Gasoline” is that people with mental illnesses go through a lot and it is usually damaging but they can come out stronger because of it. The first poetic device that Halsey uses is repetition. She wrote, “You can't wake up, this is not a dream,”(11). This line is used in every refrain and continues to add meaning each time.…

Alberta is a world-leading energy supplier and exporter of heavy oil for the production of fuel. Sound of Madness by Shinedown I interpret the song to be an angry rant at the world, and the people that live in it. People who complain about their lives or anything else are all under fire from the lyrics. The beat is very heavy in the background making you get this feeling of contentious problems with a certain idea or problem. The dynamics of the sound don’t change a whole lot, but it starts out at a loud volume and pretty much stay there the entire song emphasizing the anger that the artist is trying to portray. The rhythm of the song repeats the drum beats on the down beats and the guitar on the upbeats gives this song a very head bobbing feel to it.…

Misogynistic lines such as, ‘Slut, you think I wont choke no whore til the vocal chords don’t work in her throat no more?’, conveys that a women’s voice has no significance in society and should be silenced with force. These lyrics employ misogyny to legitimize domestic violence and highlight that women should be compliant and domesticated by men. Women feel disempowered by the song as it creates an ‘ideology that reduces women to objects for men’s ownership, use or abuse.’ (Cundiff, 2013). Overall the song interprets the negative notion of a man’s suppressive and hostile actions towards a…

This song talks about the speaker driving up to Oakland to see his girlfriend and can’t wait to get away from all the horrors of where he is living only to be met with new problems. This is similar to the fact that in the book Mayella is trying to get away from the horrors of kissing a black man by lying and saying that he raped her, trying to get him killed. Yet, she doesn’t know about the problems that can erupt from having an innocent man killed. The tone of both the book and the song is tense.
