First off, when the 14 young noble citizens were being compelled to go in the labyrinth with the minotaur, King Minos was deciding who would go “and his son Theseus had chosen to be among them”(Donaldson 18). This means that Theseus had volunteered to, what the people and his dad thought, be killed. When he did meet up with the Minotaur, “Theseus leapt aside and then jumped onto the Minotaur’s back.”(Donaldson 18). When Ariadne and Theseus run into the Minotaur the beast lunges towards Theseus. Theseus hops on the Minotaurs back and jabs a sword into his tough hide.
