There Will Evil Always Be Present In This World

Decent Essays
Why will evil always be present in this world? It's the short cut to feeling significant. It's easy, quick, and takes no skill. One of the best examples I can think of is Bullying. Bullies gain a brief feeling of significance by tearing someone down and causing harm. They are significant in their mind, to the person being bullied, and to all the bystanders. Bullying takes nothing more than a bad attitude and the need to feel significant. How do you create lasting significance? Stand up to the bully. Protect those that are vulnerable at that moment. The bully will come and go, but you will have a lifetime of significance to the person you defend.

Evil is necessary because, as stated, without it, how would we ever know what good is? For example, wisdom teeth can cause pain and suffering and getting them pulled is painful and there is suffering for a little while afterward. However, in the end, it is good to get them pulled because now there is no longer any pain or suffering. The evil that is in the world is unavoidable for a reason – to show us what good really is. Evil is just a means to an end, where the “end” is “good”.…

Adam Makarewicz Philosophy take-home quiz The problem of evil is a very difficult topic to break down and take an absolute side on. Since a supposed deity is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent, then how can evil exist naturally in our world? My views of this question are fairly mixed. In comparison to Demea, Philo, and Cleanthes, I could more or less agree with Demea and Philo.…

The short story “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson is about an old woman named Miss Strangeworth who is determined to rid “Strangeworth Town” of evil, yet she does not notice that she is causing evil herself. Although she seems like a proper, nice old lady, when she goes home every day, she writes cruel letters to the people in her town. Miss Strangeworth notices that everyone in the town is distressed and she wonders why. She refuses to acknowledge that she is truly evil herself. No one in that town would suspect her sending rude letters to everyone.…

The incompatible and opposing qualities of good and evil in the world have conceivably been caught in an endless battle with one another for an unmeasurable amount of time. Some say the two forces will eternally be at war as there is no apparent solution to deteriorating such prominent factors to the world’s foundation, however, how can the existence of extreme evil truly be such an issue when there is arguably just as much good to counterbalance it? Albert Einstein was once recorded to have stated that “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.” In the allegorical tragedy entitled The Crucible, Arthur Miller clearly articulates that ultimate evil in the world is an inevitable…

I believe that the person at the end of “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson, is not justified in their action because that is not the action they should have taken. This is because by doing this they are no different to Miss. Strangeworth. Also, they could have addressed the problem in a more civil manner, rather than doing what they did. Finally, they also will have to live with the fact that they did such a thing.…

Anywhere you look, you are looking at evil. You might not think so, many people may seem wholly good, but everyone has evil in them. You might not see it right now, but trust me, it’s there, lurking in the shadows. This is, at least, what Bram Stoker, the writer of Dracula, and Robert Louis Stevenson, the writer of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, want you to believe through their characters of Dracula and Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, respectively. These characters use their supernatural abilities to disrupt peace and cause hardship throughout their eponymous works.…
