Do schools have the right to search your stuff? Privacy is a major necessity in life, but it can be invaded if needed. Yes, schools have the right to search your locker/backpack. Inappropriate items, stolen items, and exposure are just some of the reasons why schools have that right. To begin with, inappropriate items are one of the dangers schools can face if a student or students, bring to cause harm to the school. Such items include weapons and drugs. Airports have security, where they search your items incase a person is trying to bring something harmful on the plane, or to the destination that they’re to go. Airports have metal detectors and many other resources to check if you’re bringing something bad. The same goes for schools. After …show more content…
As a boy matures into a teen, they are exposed to materials that expand their knowledge of the world. Scientific studies show that boys are naturally “turned on” by women. Boys could bring inappropriate magazines to show the other students which puts some kids at risk because their parents would not want their child being exposed to that kind of material. That causes problems because the parent would probably get the school in trouble, which opens other doors to suing and more. If schools search the bags/lockers, no items like that would be able to get through. Admittingly, searching a student’s belongings is an invasion of privacy to most people. Most students wouldn’t bring such things to school, but there is still a risk that bad stuff will be inside the school. That is the weakness to this. Schools are home to students who a lot of students and if an item/items would risk the safety of those students, then schools should have the ability to search the bags/lockers. Ultimately, schools should have the right to search according to all these reasons. The safety of students comes first, above everything else. Searching is a way to protect the schooling system in general and is the best decision coming to the argument of searching or
