Wilfred Owen's Argument Against Abortion

Improved Essays
The view of many is that there are only two sides to the issue of abortion. One is either a supporter of abortion or they are against it; there is no middle ground. There is a clear and distinct rift between the two groups of people. However, I believe that there can be a middle ground. People should recognize this middle and come together to discuss their thoughts and opinions in a safe and secure manner. There are activists who protest outside of abortion clinics and many clinics have even been vandalized or burned to the ground because of these protestors. These actions seem very drastic in my point of mind. I respect these people’s desire to protect what they believe in and to show the world that they are not going to lay down and let …show more content…
Owen makes a point in his article to point out that a woman may justify her decision to abort her child based on the notion that during the time of the abortion the baby was, in fact, not considered a living fetus. Some women rationalize the idea by saying that the thing growing inside them is just a bundle of cells and is not a living, breathing child. This notion, however plausible, is one that I do not recognize. In my opinion, once the sperm cell meets the egg there is life. I cannot begin to fathom how some do not see the life growing inside of them. Although I find this assumption incorrect, I also consider that every person has the right to their own opinions. Just like any other medical procedure, abortions are readily available to those who seek them out. Many states are working to prevent this type of service from becoming available to its residents, as discussed in the article “The Public Health Threat of Anti-abortion Legislation”. Once again, we circle around to the matter that every person has a right to …show more content…
I believe that every person has the right to choose what to do with their life and their bodies. I cannot say in whole that I believe that abortion is the right route to go. When becoming pregnant with a child that you do not want to love and cherish, you must look at all of the options that are available to you. Adoption is one of the options that could influence someone into changing their minds when it comes to abortion. There are many women and couples who are not capable of having children, and adoption is a way of making more than one life better. By choosing to carry the baby to term, a woman can put it up for adoption and save the life of her child as well as bless the life of someone else. Abortion is not the only option, and I believe that when a woman goes in to discuss her options once she discovers that she is pregnant, all of her options should be presented to her. However beneficial adoption is, there are still some woman that believe that abortion is the only option that will work for them. It is imperative that we learn to accept this opinion. Even though abortion is something I would never consider, I respect the woman’s right to choose. I wouldn’t want someone to approach me and tell me what I should believe in and what I should do with my life. Each woman who enters into an abortion clinic has a story, and it is up to her if she wants to share that story. Women who have

I also hear that if a woman wants to have intercourse and does not want to get pregnant, than she should be using some type of birth control. I will argue why these statements are not true whatsoever. Most people believe that all people should accept the consequences to their actions, and that is something I believe as well. This is probably why pro-lifers argue that abortion is wrong because the women chose to have sex and now she needs to be willing to accept that child that she is now pregnant with, or the “consequence” of her actions. Often enough, though, a woman ends up pregnant even when she has taken necessary steps to not get pregnant, such as using contraceptives.…

Though not every place allows an abortion many of the women who fought to have abortions still are looked as a role model to those woman who are not ready for motherhood. A woman can decide whether she wants to have a child or not, but the cost of a child here in the United States it is quite difficult, though there is government support. Through a pro choice perspective they believe that everyone is entitled to decide what they want to do with their body or not. By not giving the choice to a woman to…

Access to legal abortion reduces maternal injury as well as death caused by unsafe illegal abortion. It seems to me that abortion should remain legalized in the United States. Women have various reasons to resort to abortion. First off, no one should be able to tell a women what to do with her body, or judge her for it. Second, the majority of people tend to make or believe countless misconceptions when it comes to this topic.…

Every woman needs the right to control her body, although some would argue that the fetus isn 't her body. Again, Linda Lowen stated, “it is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord, its health is dependent on her health, and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb” (Boston). If women are restricted from being able to access safe abortions then we are going back on years and years of work to fight for these rights. The push to make abortion illegal is without a doubt regression. Women need to be in control of their own bodies, and not have to fear the government making decisions for them.…

It is painful both for a woman and for children to live this way and abortion should be provided as an option for women. It will provide her with a freedom of choice and she will not feel completely trapped. In the case of incest, abortion should be permitted because the negative genetic consequences of an incestuous union are known by science and they are horrible. Genetic mutations, deviations in both physical and mental development, different kinds of deformities, and health issues are the most common risks for such babies, and to avoid it, abortions should be allowed. It’s necessary to point out that everybody deserves to live, even the unborn baby, but, from the other point of view, a woman, who might die delivering a baby, who was raped or whose child would have some serious issues, should have a right of choice.…

Abortion has been around for quit sometime now, and its support is only getting stronger. Advocates of abortion emphasize one’s ability to have the choice of whether that person wants to keep the baby or not. They believe that the person that was conceived is technically not a human being yet, and is a person once the mother has given birth to the child. Because they believe that the person they are aborting is not a human, it is then okay to end its life. They make arguments such as having the option of abortion will help victims of rape, incest, or if the person is just not ready to have a child.…

We should legalize the murder of all babies, since that’s basically what abortion is about, isn’t it? Abortion is currently legal in all states, but even then it is still one of the most controversial issues in the U.S. I believe there are other options for women to choose from other than abortion. I support pro-life because I do not like the idea of unborn babies being killed legally. People who are pro-choice or pro-abortion supports abortion because it is the “women’s rights” to choose what they want for their body (“Abortion”).…

While abortion is not forbidden, the woman seeking an abortion must consult with a rabbi who is qualified to give advice on the matter of abortion. Abortion is allowed—even encouraged—when the mother’s life is at risk. The limitations on this, however, are that the risk to the mother must be substantial and that the abortion cannot happen in late stages of the pregnancy. If she has life-threatening difficulty in childbirth, then an abortion is permissible until the head or another part of the unborn child leaves the mother’s body. If continuing the pregnancy would drive the mother to suicide, then an abortion is allowed.…

It’s not easy to decide which side to be on because there is a large amount of factors to consider. People who are opponents of abortion are against abortion. The pro- life group believes that there is no other reason that can be considered moral to abort the fetus except when the reason for abortion is to save the life of the mother. multiple factors can influence a person 's reason for being a pro- lifer, but personal values and religious beliefs is a large contributor. If a person is pro- choice, that means that they believe than only the woman in question has the right to decide what to do with her body and the pregnancy, It is also that the government has no say in the decision the woman makes regarding the…
