There are many interesting grassroots solutions that are available for us to talk about. I found these two issues to I would like to talk about first that I thought were interesting and informal issues like these are Important. Talking about these topics in the news would shed light on how other people live in different countries. Even though it is now the 21st century times now are still suffering because of the early 15th century when the Europeans came to these southern countries during that time. These issues are very important to the world not just to the Southern region of South America. Often times these countries like Cuba and Venezuela do not have much rights as the wealthy and because the wealthy donate money politicians the wealthy are usually in control. Venezuela is also known as a Extractive economy because they have “transportation which is dominated with the sale for things like cacao or coffee finca, and then oil site to port” (Course Themes). Also another important country that we are reading about is about Cuba which is also an extractive economy according to our course theme notes “Cuba was led from plantation to ports” (Course Themes). Cuba like other southern American country had imperial powers mixed into their economy and political world. Something Richard Gott says that backs up my claim which is “The imperial powers involved with Cuba’s affairs over centuries invariably followed up their initial seizure and settlement with a preoccupation about the island’s defences – although results were often slow in coming” (197

Ms. Joanne Herring was a Texas socialite, the high-flying trophy wife of an oil baron who counted among her friends Princess Grace of Monaco, but she will be forever defined as the woman who charmed a womanizing senator into taking up the cause of the Afghani mujahideen (Charlie Wilson Biography). Charlie Wilson would leverage his position on the Defense Appropriations committee to secretly funnel billions of dollars to the mujahideen to help them fend off the Soviets, dealing a crippling blow to the Soviet Union, but also arming a new generation of revolutionaries in the middle east (Charlie Wilson Biography). The devastating consequences on middle eastern politics that this would have is characteristic of imperialism, but the casual attitude Charlie Wilson embodied toward interference was not always typical of American government. At the outset of World War II, The United States and Soviet Union began the task of the reconstruction of Europe and other parts of…

There was no sense in trying to control the madness of our large group, of fifty year olds to five year olds. It was a great day, the sun was out and the summer breeze was perfect. Our huge mob, a third of us high schoolers from Missouri and the rest elementary kids from a few miles down the highway in a lower income area, walked around taking in the downtown sites of Detroit. We had started by having a nice picnic in the park crowding around small tables to make our sandwiches and playing with the Frisbee. After packing up and catching all of the trash blowing around in the wind, we had the rest of the day to explore the shops and cool places scatter across the downtown area.…

As Chris Rock put it, “Shaq is rich, the white man that signs his check is wealthy(Very Funny Chris Rock About Wealth).” By coincidence, this also happens to countries that can be wealthy, but are forced to be in poverty. The way wealth is measured in countries is by the death and birth rate.…

The president elect and I have recently examined three proposals that are very promising in successfully reducing poverty in Anchuria. Both him and I are devoted to reducing poverty in our country as well as providing jobs. As the Secretary for Economic and Development, I believe these three proposals from Yunus, de Soto and Kohli have the potential to spur economic growth and decrease poverty as well as determine the best way to use our resources. We were influenced by Muhammad Yunus to use nearly all of our oil revenues to provide microcredit programs for the country’s poor. At current oil prices, the Anchurian government receives $410 million in oil revenues.…

As well as wealthy individuals benefiting from poverty, wealthy countries and big corporations also benefit from people and countries with less financial power. For example, the price of oil around the world is largely based on whether a country is more of a consumer or a producer of oil (Do, 2015). Countries where the gas prices are lower, such as the U.S, consume a great deal more oil than is produced. This means that these countries need to import and purchase a great deal of oil from other countries, and do not export early as much. 80 percent of the world’s population shares just 6 percent of the world’s wealth (Do, 2015).…

In this review, I examine existing literature on the nature of the relationship between colonial legacies and economic development. What the literature collectively points out is that colonialism did bring some benefits in terms of technology, peace and an access to and implantation of modern institutions. Yet little attempt was really made to make such benefits endure, and many were restricted to the colonial period. They also brought racism, discrimination, inequality (as a part of their divide and rule policy) and seriously warped many African political and economic institutions. Moreover, once the European powers left, much of what was positive was ephemeral and went into reverse while many of the negatives endured (See Bauer, Chandra,…
