Application The intervention discussed this week is Wraparound Intensive Casemanagment. This technique is applied to a presenting problem concerning emotional and behavioral disturbances amongst youth. It is not unusual for children experiencing emotional and behavioral issues to be subjected to poor academic achievement, familial issues, and interaction with the juvenile justice system. There are many other options that could work to meet the need of this particular population, but Wraparound treatment planning offers a holistic approach.…
However, suspending and expelling students will not solve their behavioral issues. It will simply get them out of the classroom and school, which is ultimately their goal. To address this issue, Cox Academy introduced the “All-In” program, which “pairs a general education teacher with a special education teacher, and places two additional counselors in the classroom to provide behavioral support for students for a full year” (Rothenburg 301). I think this program seems like a great program for students. When I was in elementary school, I was in a classroom fairly similar to this.…
To reflect appropriately upon the journal, this reflection has been structured into the different elements studied and cited within my discussion and reflective journal entries. These elements are an assessment, the biopsychosocial and therapeutic approaches, and work with families. Even though assessment is quoted in a range of literature, the nature of SEBD means that there is no standardised or definitive test. Behaviour rating scales and procedures for observing and evaluating behaviour are used within my setting, but SEBD is a broad set of needs, and, therefore, diagnostic assessments should always be viewed with caution. As Ellis and Todd (2009) identify, there may be little that pupils with SEBD have in common.…
Female Court Ordered Probation Officer Note: Has been working as a probation officer since 2016 1. There are disadvantages and advantages; however, she is still learning. In one of her cases, the juvenile was placed in North Texas State Hospital. The hospital had a duel diagnostic program which provided mental health and substance abuse treatment. By placing the juvenile within the hospital there was a lack of communication between the hospital and herself, which she expressed was a disadvantage.…
The Recovery Model: I can see how the recovery model would work with Solution Focused Brief Therapy. “The recovery model aims to help people with mental health problems to look beyond mere survival and existence. It encourages them to move forward, set new goals and do things and develop relationships that give their lives meaning”. ("Mental Health foundation," SFBT is an approach that focuses on how clients change, rather than one which focuses on diagnosing and treating problems. For Tonya, she is recovering from a substance addiction, child and adult abuse, AIDS, and has addiction to sex, and mental health problems.…
After meeting with Frank and hearing the reason why he has come to therapy there are a few follow up questions that will help me better understand what is going on and how I can help. All of the follow up questions fall under three major categories: identity, friend’s death, and views on counseling. Exploring’s Frank identity is important because growing up in a Latino and Catholic home means that there are certain values and traditions followed that shape not only the person’s life but their world view. Questions that are pertinent to exploring his identity are asking what values he holds due to being Latino and/or being Catholic, is he a devout Catholic because of tradition or personal choice and has he experienced any discrimination because…
As my new role as assistant director, I will be supporting the infant and toddler teachers. Because I frequently visit and greet my tiniest friends daily, I have become a familiar face. I look forward to introducing them to our studio/multi -purpose room this fall, to explore new learning situations, challenges and materials. When I am with the infant and toddler rooms I often clean off a table, or sweep a floor, or pitch in any other capacity if needed when I am helping my colleagues.…
Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

Humanistic Theory and Therapies Schneider and Krug (2015) report that therapeutic outcome studies are finding that the therapeutic environment, the relationship, and the personal styles of the therapist and client are essential features for all therapeutic modalities. These salient therapeutic features are parallel to the central qualities of humanistic therapy, including empathy, therapeutic alliance, enhancing and deepening emotions, the self of the therapist, and the therapeutic relationship (Angus, Watson, Elliot, Schneider, & Timulak, 2015). Moreover, research is demonstrating that it is not the theories and techniques that heal, but the human dimensions of therapy, like the relationship, which promote healing (Schneider & Krug, 2015).…
I completed my field experience hours at Volusia Pines Elementary School in Lake Helen Florida. I was able to work with my nephew’s first grade teacher, Mrs. Erica Stevens. Altogether I spent 16 hours with Mrs. Stevens and her students. Mrs. Stevens has worked at Volusia Pines Elementary School for eight years. Her class is a general education class with seventeen students, of the seventeen students nine are girls and eight are boys.…
Many options are available today for people looking for alternatives to traditional methods of healthcare. Most people are not aware of the different approaches to health and healing that can be taken. The term alternative medicine is, “used simply to denote approaches to health and healing that do not rely on drugs, surgery, and/ or other conventional medical procedures for treating illness.” (Goldberg). When becoming involved in alternative medicine, a world of possibilities is introduced.…
In the beginning of the season we saw how the kids are disruptive when they are placed in the regular classroom with the stoop kids as well. Once they were separated, they made progress as they were taught things that related to them. In the end, they improved to the point where a few of the corner kids were allowed back into the regular classroom. These episodes really show that the program helped those kids out and shaped them into more calm and wanting to learn…
I would like to extend my sincerest thanks for taking your time to consider my candidacy for the Educational Psychology/School Psychology program at the University of Wisconsin. I have always been drawn to behavioral psychology, the phenomenon of learning, and educational processes. After discovering that I had a special talent for working with children and at-risk youth, I eagerly began my academic pursuit in elementary education. With ever-increasing learning demands, and limited time and resources, I quickly learned that inevitably some children fail to perform adequately among their peers. This reality came quite clear to me through my experience working and substitute teaching in a public elementary school.…
