After taking both assessments, the Theory Y represents how I manage my employees and it is consistent with how I felt about my management style. According to the book Modern (Theory Y) represents my style through and through, because I believe I am self-energized, committed and responsible person (p13) and that is how everyone around me sees me. Another reason why the Theory Y represents me is I am always looking for positives in every situation. I know I am not perfect even though I try but when my employees make mistakes, I not only inform them about them but I point out the positives in it to. The reason for this is because in the past two years working at this location, changing my approach it also changes my employees approach because …show more content…
I agree with that to a point because I like things a certain way, I like organization, and I like structure. These are all reasons why I am in the Military, it defines me and I am in my comfort zone. I am even flexible because I recently went on a vacation with three other individuals and did not plan a thing and it didn’t bother me one bit, I simply went with the flow. I can go with the flow if my employees do not tell me things that are important to the mission until after the fact, or ask me to cover their duties last minute because they have an appointment, it just rolls off my back. I do see myself being inflexible when some situations do not go my way or personnel do not understand what I am saying or my thoughts are not coming out correct. When I feel myself getting frustrated, I end up sitting there, shutting my mouth and nodding until I can gather my thoughts. During these types of scenarios, I am inflexible and then I start zoning off, doing breathing techniques and waiting until it passes. It's beneficial to know that I am inflexible with some situations so I can change my approach or my outcome to benefit the …show more content…
Having a flexible management style will aid in my work life balance and allow others to strive for the same thing. Being flexible to the situation and taking advantage of the hours, you might have at the time. Being in the military, change happens so you need to be flexible. Sometimes, nothing seems to go right so hurry and wait. With having the flexible approach, I am able to adapt and respond to situations easier (p19). As for having an inflexible management style the cons would be being closed minded, not being open to new ideas and hearing what others are trying to say and do. Being inflexible, my employees wouldn’t want to come to me, wouldn’t want to bring new ideas to the table they eventually wouldn’t want to be committed to me or the section. With all the cons, it would lead to break down of the section and working together for a common

The military is one of the largest organizations that utilizes the contingency approach because it's an efficient way to address problems. The book outlines one of the reasons to use the contingency approach is because "a particular management practice that worked today, may not work tomorrow"(Kinicki - Fugate 5). Based on my experiences in the United States Navy, I would say this reference sums up my entire Naval career. When you have that many people from different walks of life and serving around the world it isn't possible to manage using static approach to every problem. The benefits from using this tactics in my experience bring about successful missions, effective leadership, positive morale, organized plans, and growth in human/social…

In a community, being a leader is often difficult due to all the components and struggles that go into being one. A leader is an individual who can take charge in various situations, and do it effectively in a way which makes others follow them. Throughout my years, I have grown from being a primarily shy person to someone who is not afraid to step up and be the leader I am now. Today, I am able to consistently demonstrate what it is to be a leader in my daily life. Although coming into high school as a freshman was intimidating for me, I knew that in order to succeed, I needed to open up and try something new.…

A leader, the person who leads or commands a group. That's the Merriam-Webster definition, but that seems far too simple a definition for a character who's actions and influences can reverberate for days, weeks or even generations to come. Often the word leader calls to mind a vision of Martin Luther King Jr., a military officer, or the President of the United States? A leader, in my opinion, is someone who leads a group with integrity, and with a passion to serve others. Leaders need to have values and character straits admirable to others.…

I think leadership is an important aspect that one needs to show daily throughout their life. In school I’ve shown leadership through helping my friends and others with homework or any class work. Knowing that I am able to help them and advise them through what they’re doing makes me feel good about myself. When I have work to do in class, I prefer to settle myself down and get what I need to get done before I socialize which is another way I have demonstrated leadership. Through sports I’ve laid out leadership by showing good sportsmanship and working together to be able to succeed.…

Ever since I started high school my freshman year, I was always interested in having some kind of leadership role in the clubs that interested me. Unfortunately I wanted until my junior to take up any leadership positions. However, these leadership positions have changed me for the good, and I will forever be thankful for it. Taking up these roles forced me to step outside of my comfort zone, which in turn made me a more bubbly, less shy person. Also, I can tell it has affected how I work at my job.…

Leadership is something I know I posses but as I wrote this essay I found it very difficult to write about myself, I am not a person to brag about personal accomplishments so this was a challenge. I was a leader in several activities, but looking back, I found even though I wasn’t in a leadership position I led by action. In church on mission trips I realized the younger kids look up to me for guidance on how to do things or talk to people. In everyday life, my sister and her friends look up to me for leadership in school work and social events, and in Ducks Unlimited the mentees in the junior mentor program saw that I had shifted, over the years, from mentee to mentor and that they could also continue their journey in Ducks Unlimited in this…

When many think of a leader they think of a person that commands directions for a group. My definition, however, is a little different, as a leader I like to show the way by example rather than authorities order. Throughout the day I did not observe any disadvantages to my selection of leadership style. One alternate leadership style I could have utilized was an authoritative style. A particular situation that this style may be effective in was when my peers were rushing to complete vital signs and Accu-Checks before lunch, had I decided for the group that we would complete this tasks by a certain time, everyone may have been done around the same time.
