Essay: Certainty In The Workplace

Our work place environments are the atmospheres in which we surround ourselves on a daily basis and sometimes not necessarily by choice. Some factors of a workplace environment include physical conditions or work procedures. One aspect I did not initially recognize is the idea of how the people I work with operate mentally. The concept of Theory X and Theory Y made me review my assumptions. In doing so, I noticed the majority of my co-workers are Theory Y. However, I do work with someone who would be considered a Theory X employee. This person stands out to the rest of us and is labeled as having an attitude while going against leadership, and at times it feels as if they are going against the team making it difficult to work alongside them. I have found, as a new employee, I will ask a Theory Y employee rather than approaching a Theory X employee. Assuming they do not want to do any extra work. When assessing status in my workplace I would say that as the newest member on my team I am always asking questions. Therefore, knowing my place, yet being encouraged to ask as many questions as possible to ensure the work is done properly. Certainty in my workplace is seeing when someone is having a hard day and adjusting oneself to ensure a beneficial outcome. Having ideas are welcomed in my office and sharing these ideas with others and seeing it through is how we perform autonomy in my workplace. Feeling safe and trusting one another in my workplace stems from our mutual respect for one another. It is that balance of respect, including the connections and exchanges with one another that bring about fairness. I would say that I create the SCARF Model in my workplace by always avoiding situations where I have no choices and trying my best to influence others in positive
