“Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” is a popular Puritan sermon written by Jonathan Edwards. Edwards uses imagery to instruct fear in the hearts of his audience, particularly in the line “God holds you over the pits of Hell much as one holds a spider or some other loathsome insect over the fire…” The hand in the image is a representing of the hand of God, holding everyone above Hell. By just barely holding onto the spider-man, the hands position represents God’s ever present disgust with human nature.…

The newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Doctor Strange, finally released its trailer, with a prevalent emphasis on time, its manipulation, and the implications of said manipulation (along with magic!). Naturally upon its release, the “nerd hype” flowed through my veins, and almost immediately I scoured the internet for beginners’ level mystical spells that I could perform on my own. In the middle of my research on the “Sorcerer Supreme”, I began to reflect about time and how it was more important to me now than ever. In the second grade, time was of very little significance.…

Once again we are coming into a second part of a story, meaning that the characters have already been introduced and the plot is established well enough in the viewer’s minds. Writer Toby Whithouse takes full advantage of this during the pre-credits scene. Instead of a traditional teaser piece which sets up the perils ahead, the Doctor instead breaks the fourth wall and introduces the viewers to the episode, and its devices, himself. Although this concept has been used in the show previously over the years it has never been taken to this level before, and I can’t say that it works for me unfortunately.…

Which is commonly referred to in modern day media as Frankenstein himself. This could easily lead the reader to believe Frankenstein 's Monster to be Frankenstein himself, as they have a lot of similarities through out the book; the only evidence to dispute this is when Captain Walton and his crew sees The Monster, after days of being stranded in ice, which could lead to dementia. Victor Frankenstein and The Monster tend to vary in similarity through out the book. Strangelove also uses props, but much more subtly in order to reflect the dangers in preventing a nuclear war. The props are not used for pure comedic effect, they are simply used to highlight absurdities. In the first scene on the B-52 jet carrying the nuclear bombs, the military personnel are reading Playboy and playing cards. These are not necessarily the actions that should be occurring on a plane carrying nuclear, humanity-destroying bombs. Therefore, the props in the slapstick comedies were simply used for comedic effect while the props in dark comedies started to have more meaning and significance regarding the theme in their uses.…
