The main method of persuasion in the paragraph is the pathos appeal. The author of the blurb is specifically targeting the audience’s heart, making us feel sad and responsible for pediatric cancer. These feelings of sorrow and responsibility will lead the audience to nominating Bear Necessities as the Charity Drive charity in order to make themselves feel better because they improved the situation. The author also was very knowledgeable regarding the audience’s constraints; he/she knew that high school students are very accessible, and have the power to make large changes due to massive numbers. Furthermore, the author knew that the audience (high school students) was going to easily be persuaded because high school students are also kids and…
Within the story “A Sorrowful Woman,” Gail Godwin weaves a tale that tells the story of an intriguing family that likely seems normal on the surface, but within has deep issues. The story ultimately ends with the unfortunate death of the protagonist, with the death being surrounded in mystery. Ultimately, the wife’s death comes down to her sickness being incurable and her needing to have some control of what was going on within her life. When the wife is initially sick, it isn’t very clear as to what could make her as physically sick as she was. Simply looking at her child should not be enough to make anyone physically sick.…
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’s (1969) five stages of grief had a huge impact and breakthrough in the world of theory, although many other theorists had their take on grief and loss such as, John Bowlby and Sigmund Freud. Kubler-Ross’s five stages identifies, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, relating well with Gemma’s transition process and all of the feelings Gemma experienced throughout this period (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2014). To this day it is believed that many people still revert back and use Kubler-Ross’s five stage model (Webster, 2017). In the book that Kubler-Ross wrote she highlights that loss isn’t, “…just through family and friends, but also in the feelings of loss that come with the inevitable life changes we all endure” (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2014, Pg 1). This was important for me to understand through carrying out this interview with Gemma as it allowed me to fully empathize with Gemma’s situation and enabled me to apply the most appropriate theory.…
Life is an incredible journey with moments of laughter, excitement and ecstasy along the way. Events like falling in love, succeeding in your career or celebrating birthdays with the people closest to you, are all experiences that truly make life worth living. However, what we all must realise at some point in our lives, is that these highs can never last forever. It is an inevitable fact, that what goes up, must also come back down, and feelings of loss, grief and heartbreak occur just as often as their desired counterparts. What most people don’t realise is that both emotional states are of equal importance.…

One might wonder if suffering ever has meaning or if it subsists as only a matter of fact. One might say that suffering always has meaning because one often learns much from suffering. One could even argue that one usually becomes a much wiser, courageous, and even thoughtful individual after one undergoes some sort of hardship. Oftentimes, after one experiences some sort of affliction, they learn more about who they are, they begin to define themselves as an individual more precisely.…
Find a way to our lectures that would say, "you know, we've got to be in fear here and defense. And just got to get out there, and get what we need to get while we can get it." And, when. You found your way here.…
In western culture, there is a semi-understood difference between sadness and depression. Often, time and energy are spent attempting to separate the two ideas and contrast them with one another. However, sadness and depression are very hard to distinguish for the person suffering from one or the other because they share so many similar traits. In fact, some people are unable to get the mental health help they so desperately need because they are unable to recognize the seriousness of their depression versus the effects of sadness. So, despite their differences, sadness and depression are similar in that the person experiencing these effects feels deep grief, they face an inability to function, and painful thoughts dominate their lives.…
3.3 The purpose and meaning of suffering according to John Paul II The question can be asked, is there always purpose and meaning in suffering? According to Pope John Paul II, the answer is yes, but only a few are able to recognize the purpose of sufferings. In God’s plan, nothing is allowed in this world without any purpose and meaning. As we read in the Book of Prophet Isaiah, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, […] so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Since God is all powerful, only God can bring good out of evil.…
Krishna in Bhagvad Gita says, "Four types of virtuous devotees worship me: the distressed; the seekers of wealth; the one who seeks knowledge of God; and the Jnani (wise)." A distressed person is the one who has never yet given a serious thought about God. And hence there comes a time in his life when he suffers a tremendous amount of suffering. This is a result of his or her previous Karma.…
Grief and Loss Loss is a necessary and essential experience in human life. As we grow we abandon our favorite objects, like toys or a blanket, we say goodbye to places and people, we are giving up on teenage dreams and hopes of becoming famous artists or performers. These experiences allow us to change, develop, fulfill, and explore our potential. Therefore, loss is not always beneficial, some losses are more difficult to accept than others, and they can be devastating. The emotional response to debilitating loss refers to grief or bereavement which involves life’s changes, the way a person thinks, feels, and expresses themselves.…
Your suffering is my suffering. Your happiness is my happiness. I would always regard your emotions, your needs, and your vulnerabilities as I regard my own. I am unskillful, and I apologize If I cause you suffering.…
1.4.3. The Meaning of Suffering Suffering is a primeval problem. From the very beginning of humanity itself the face of man is marked with wrinkles. Men of all ages have tried to solve this problem or at least to smoothen it. Man wants to be happy and what hinders his happiness most is suffering, of one or other form.…
The world defines sadness, anger, and fear as negative emotions, however the definition of “negative” is to have a wicked or evil character. The worldviews sadness, anger, and fear as negative emotions but do not have the evidence to support this statement. These emotions have collected this title because the world fears discomfort and “describing them as “negative” only perpetuates the myth that these useful feelings are, you know, negative” (David 124). The myth of the emotions is so beloved that generation after generation have been taught to dread the feeling of sadness, anger, and fear and to seek for happiness for a result of growth instead of experiencing the process of the emotions the world was given. While people believe that finding happiness can result in growth, they fail to acknowledge that negative emotions contribute to people’s mental and physical growth too.…
