Summary of the Content
Both authors express many overlapping elements of revealed truth in regard to the process of counseling and the problems that are derived in the life of clients and people suffering from disorders and psychologically unhealthy mindsets. Hawkins utilizes a theory of 5 concentric circles defining the human psyche and physiology. Hawkins goes on to relay his theory of counseling that utilizes 4 phases in which the counselor and the client work through the issues that hinder the client and formulate a plan of action in which the client is assisted in overcoming issues and able to become accountable and productive within the community. That is to say this viewpoint considers biblical views to be separate from individuals suffering from a professional medical diagnosis and to leave treatment to such clients up to professionals trained in the theory and practice of psychology. The separate but equal view suggest that just as a pastor would not attempt medical treatment for a physiological ailment a pastor should not attempt treatment for a psychological ailment either (Crabb, 1977). The tossed salad approach as the name indicates promotes the mixing of biblical concepts and revealed truths with the theories and concepts of professional psychology (Crabb, 1977). The nothing buttery approach completely ignores the field of psychology and promotes that nothing but Christ and or God is ever needed to solve all human problems to include mental and or psychological problems (Crabb, 1977). Spoiling the Egyptians incorporates the elements of integration introduced by the tossed salad approach but significantly encompasses all revealed truth from psychology to be filtered by the authority of God and His Word from a biblical foundation of scripture (Crabb, 1977).
Crabb (1977) expresses his view of the structure of personality, he presents five aspects of personality as; conscious mind, unconscious mind, basic direction, will and emotion. Basically conscious mind is the ability to talk to
