Theory, concepts, and principles are interrelated. Theory is made up of concepts, methods, and principles which together form the knowledge base of management science. An action or discussion is guided by a concept; thoughts, ideas and general notions about a class of objects which may be true or not. In contrast, principles are ideas that are related to the topic in discussion. Principles guide concepts, thoughts and action by providing laws, fundamental truths or doctrines.

All these nurses are specialized to do specific functions depending on their level of education and specialization. The working structure of this staff is prone to frequent changes. The relationship between the superiors and subordinate workers provide leadership that is distributed, participatory and transformational. An administrator at the top of management acts as the controller where he or she coordinates the rest of the staff. This person coordinates all the information from both directions from the management to the subordinate staff and helps in maintaining a satisfactory working environment for all the staff.
An open system or self-maintaining structure is the system in which nursing managers are operating should be open to new ideas and management techniques that may help improve the nursing care to patients. In order to improve services, nursing managers keep on updating their systems and providing additional education to their nursing staff. Therefore, the combination of nursing management, planning and evaluation provide nursing care to patients.
The genetic-societal is the fifth level of the general system theory where division of labor allows specialized nursing care to patients by integrating multi-skilled personnel.
