Boundaries and Boundary Crossing Summary Boundaries in the physical sense are seen to be unmovable objects that block our path and/or entrance into another area, but in counseling they are the opposite. Counseling boundaries are movable and should change with each patient and relationship because every person and situation is unique and calls for different kinds of relationships. The Key is to follow the guidelines layout by your state and given counseling association you use as to what the boundary and counseling relationship should entail.…

It is interesting what you wrote in your post when you said that “in order to help the individual there must be a confrontation of self and the incorporation of all three models must be facilitated.” This certainly leaves us room to think that in each of these models regarding addiction is that anyone who gives the treatment on the issue of addiction it will have within their reach the necessary information to be able in giving the necessary treatment, either in the clinical or counseling field. I believe the pharmaceutical developments as your mention, they are playing an important role in treating with medications those who have addictions. But, yet it is also true that even the Christian counseling field is growing in a fantastic way, due…
Within the counseling field, there is a professional relationship between client and therapist. At the beginning of the relationship the client notices an issue and approaches a professional for help. The counselor simply guides them through the treatment process that will benefit the client with their lifestyle, self-worth, religion/spirituality, worldviews, or career path. In regards to this, a counselor will be assisting a client who is suffering from anxiety and depression with theoretical orientation. The counselor supporting the client is a 24-year-old, Caucasian, female, who is highly religious, and practices ideal empathy.…
The licenses and state to state credentials are what differentiates counseling and therapy boundary lines for certain areas and field of practice. An individual having a non-degree will not pursue the same practice as the individual with higher learning or education. A licensed individual with a bachelor level education may work as an independent contractor. Although, a counselor/ therapist is interchangeable, the credentials and responsibilities distinguishes one from the other. An individual needs to have sufficient qualities or become a licensed practitioner.…
The main key philosophies of counseling professions are wellness, resilience, and prevention, which provide counselors the ability to evaluate, to form a connection between the concept and understanding of ideas, and to provide growth and wellness to develop a treatment plan for each clients. Wellness, resilience, and prevention are the three key philosophies that are constantly evolving as the years go by. According to Myers and Sweeney (2008), wellness is the paradigm for counseling that provides several strength-based solutions to limit dysfunction and increase growth in every aspect of the client. Wellness is the main results that every counselor want to reach with all their clients. Assuring wellness to all clients cannot only assure clients…
Counseling theories serves as a framework for helping professionals. Theories assist professional in providing counseling and any other services in a way that is meaningful. For instance, counseling using a Cognitive-Behavioral approach tends to focus on a patient’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Counselors using a Solution-Focused approach tends to focus on the solutions versus the past and/or behavior(s). There are certain techniques that are appropriate for certain theories.…
My philosophy of the role of the school counselor is that school counselors play a tremendous role in the life of their student and is very important for us, school counselors to be aware of our role in the students’ life. We play a big role in their development of different areas such as personal development, career/academic development, and social development. As stated by Erford (2010), The range of concerns and problems that professional school counselors are expected to address continues to grow as the dynamics of the larger society which affect the readiness and behavior of students in school (Erford, 2010). I believe this information is important because clearly our role as a school counselor is complex and comprehensive and therefore,…
Client was initially attending sessions twice a week until the 12th session when session became weekly. There was a total of 16 sessions. Therapist followed the CPT protocol but there were a few sessions when the client introduced “off track” topics such as problems in the relationship with one of her daughters and anxiety about some medical results. Client came regularly to sessions for the first two weeks (4 sessions) then attendance became irregular as she began to miss one of the two weekly appointments every other week. Therapist addressed avoidance with the client and attendance improved.…

The aim of this essay is to explore two counselling theories or theorists in depth, comparing and contrasting their background, theory of personality, theory of problems in living and theory of change. It is also necessary to assess their strengths and weaknesses as you see them and to evaluate which counselling situation that they would be most appropriate for. The two theories that I am going to discuss are the humanistic approach of person-centred therapy and the cognitive behavioural therapy approach of cognitive therapy. Carl Rogers agreed with the same main assumptions as Abraham Maslow but added that in order for a person to progress successfully they would require an environment that also gives genuineness, acceptance and empathy. He…
Going into this class I didn’t know what to expect. With it being called “Introduction To Counseling” I generally assumed that’s what it would be. I didn’t put that much thought into what we were going to learn about, but believe me; I am delighted I was given the opportunity to take this course. From professional ethics, attending behaviors, observation, encouraging, confrontation, and reflecting, I was given the chance to learn these skills that will help me in my professional life. Throughout this course I gained knowledge every week that was built up on top of each other that will give me the skill to perform at a higher professional level when I am faced with difficulties and challenges that come my way.…
