One to one communication is communication that is used between work colleagues when asking for advice between doctors and patient when discussing symptoms of an illness or even delivering bad news. Another type of one to one communication is when you are talking to your therapist. One to one communication consists of two people with no one else interfering. Argyle’s theory was first introduced in 1972. Argyle argued that interpersonal skills can be studied and can be advanced like any other skill. In Argyle’s theory he has created a communication cycle which starts off as ideas occur which is when you think of something that you want to communicate. Secondly it is message coded which is where you decide how you are going to say what you are thinking. Next the message is sent by speaking or singing then the message is perceived which is where the person you’re communicating with has realised that you have sent the message by hearing your words or signs. The message is then decoded which is when the person interprets the message you have communicated and then the message is understood when the other person gives you feedback by understanding what you are communicating. However the communication may not always be effective as the message can easily be misinterpret the messages these messages can be misinterpreted by the receiver. The communication cycle can be repeated until the conversation is understood this can be done by listening to what is being said and ask questions about it or change it into your own words. Although each individual can continue the conversation to check that they have understood the message correctly. These effects can affect children and adults with disabilities it could lead to the individual to become stressed as they cannot communication like they wish to so we have to overcome these barriers by getting them help with their speech with a speech specialist where they can learn about vocabulary, how to pronounce words and understanding language and other things. Another barrier with in health and social care is misunderstood this is a barrier because if a message is not clear and sent in the correct way then it can lead a patient to become stressed, worried or even frustrated. It is important that health care professionals are able to use Argyles theory when sending messages to patients as otherwise it leads to assumptions which make patients worried or don’t understand what the service provider saying. Environment factors can also affect communication for example if you are trying to communicate with someone and the background is very loud it becomes difficult to hear what the person is saying so communication isn’t received effectively as instead of talking you are more likely to have to shout to get your message across as it is so difficult to hear. Another environment factor is time if you don’t have enough time to be able to communicate effectively then
