The best way in my mind to accomplish this goal By creating a safe environment this can allow students to focus on learning and becoming positive global citizens. In picking the four theorists I was looking for people who focused on the students themselves and their more humanistic and tolerant approach to teaching in general. My rationale was to build my philosophy off of theorists whose beliefs fit my own as well as pushed me to think outside of my own personal comfort zone as a teacher. The big picture of this philosophy implemented into the classroom should include social, emotional, developmental and cultural needs for ALL of the students in the classroom. There are in my mind no exceptions to this form of equitable teaching. In terms of the social needs of the students I as a teacher want to focus on making them a part of the classroom and the learning environment in general. This means providing instruction at levels that match each student's ability, letting students know what you as the teacher need from them and refuse to accept excuses. This doesn’t mean that you need to a harsh disciplinarian, but rather a teacher who sets and expects students to always give it their all. When looking at emotional needs of the students I also turn to Ginott whose theory on congruent communication is built on delivering clear and concise messages without attacking the student themselves. Ginott, Curwin and Mueller’s theories on how to approach the emotional needs of students all seem to focus on the student, much like Carl Rogers person centered theory. As a teacher I want to be open to my students and I want them to be open with me. This can be particularly difficult with secondary students who may not feel comfortable sharing emotions with the peers let alone their teachers, but the way to success with this philosophy is the create positive relationships with your students on day one. As a teacher my classroom must be a place where respect, responsibility and safety is a priority. It is my job as the teacher to prep the students to follow through on these expectations and allow them the opportunity to lead by example all of
