Although there are many different ways of transportation, one way of transportation would include something like the bike-sharing program. This method has been proven to be beneficial to many. “Since 1996, all full-time college students in Chicago get to ride the CTA for less than a dollar a day using its U-Pass, the only city where a multi-college bulk purchase of discounted passes occurs” (Bernstein 1). If this works for college students, there is no doubt that we can make it work for poor and working families as well. Instead of using bikes to travel back and forth, people could create a form of car-sharing in which households let their own cars get used by neighbors when not in use. Poor people’s lives are closely linked to the access to water and its multiple uses and functions. Out of the 1.09 billion children from the developing world, there are 400 million with no access to safe water. The lack of clean water can affect people in many different ways; for example, it has the ability to risk your health, decrease the opportunity to get an education, and pose agricultural growth. Almost half of all people in developing countries have suffered at a given amount of time from a health problem caused by unpurified water. The exposure to disease this causes contributes to 2.2 million children dying every year. Shah reported that the insufficient water supply results in the loss of 443 million school days each year from a water related illness which reduces the knowledge students learn throughout the year (1). The absence of clean water also interrupts agriculture; without clean water, plants and animals cannot consume the water they need to survive. Providing families with easy access to purified, healthy water will create less health problems and healthier individuals to become an active body in the work force or become more educated. Safe water has the ability to transform lives and make the world a safer and healthier place for all its children. The sustainable management of water is crucial to the effort of eliminating
