Theological Journey

This week’s theological journey will be based upon the class visit to Evanston hospital, class devotion and course readings. Christian love is the basis of Christian faith. The hospital visit, in connection to the course work, reflected on pastoral care. Lecture at the hospital, by one of the hospital staff members, reflected on many theological aspects of loving one’s neighbor. The handouts given to us provided a synopsis of the lecture. This was proportional to one of the themes highlighted in the handout that stated “within the body of Christ, there is no ultimate distinction between giver and receiver, healthy and sick, pastor and layperson, caregiver and patient.” This reminded of me Dr. Fowler’s perspective that as pastors who are the sheep, are not above the other, because all are members of the body of Christ. Even though, we might think that we as the shepherd have a higher calling and evidently, a higher role to play, we will remain the “baptized,” people who share same faith and, are disciples of Christ. As members of the Christ, no one is superior to the other and no one is inferior to the other. In connection to this, I am reminded of an incident that happened with me this past Sunday. On Sunday, during the second service, while I was sharing the communion message, I could not speak. My throat became dry and I coughed for some time until, some people from the music band handed me a water

I began the journey with the text by reading the entire lectionary for Advent. I rested on each briefly on a daily basis over the course of a week gradually narrowing the selections to Luke 2:1-10. The verse that called to me from the text was “Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” It speaks to Mary’s role as the mother of the most important and influential child. She wants to treasure and remember the special moments as her child grows, but for me as a Christian, parent and pastor, I wanted to treasure and ponder this sacred story seeking to understand the best way to share with the body of Christ today.…

Amongst the obvious differences between a pastor and a priest, there are unique comparisons to be drawn from Father Benjamin Tremmel and Pastor Ronald Cobb, including their love for the community, their passion for the communion, and their balanced approach to preaching. To begin with, an examination of the importance communion plays in the opinions of Father Ben and Pastor Cobb would reveal they share a very similar view on the role of communion in the church. Unequivocally, communion is of the utmost importance in a Sunday service, but not all leaders of the Church…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…

My spiritual journey of faith has turned me into more of a “mutt” than a “purebred” Christian because of the variety of denominations and international churches that I have experienced so far in my life. For starters, I grew up in a “every Sunday” church family. In fact, I was at church the very next Sunday after being born. My first church was part of the Assemblies of God. However, a few years later my parents divorced and we ended up at a non-denomination church, where I spent the next 20 years.…

This book is not easy to read, not because the writing is obscure but because it hits deep on many philosophical issues. However, it is an excellent book for pastors in general and Christian leaders and educators in particular to sharpen their understanding of reality and their ministerial purpose in order to serve parishioners in becoming authentic students of…
