Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858, to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch Roosevelt. As a young child, he was educated by his aunt Annie at home, because of his severe asthma. He hardly ever got to go outside and play with other kids. When he was nine years old, he began to write about the things he had seen, mainly insects. He was a teenager when he joined a program with gymnastics and weight lifting trying to build up his strength and muscles.
He traveled a lot through Europe and the Middle East in his high school years. In 1876, Theodore entered Harvard College where he studied Germany, natural history, zoology, forensics, and composition. He became a boxer and worked himself onto the wrestling team. He graduated
