Theodore was known throughout his years as being very determined and possessed a unique strong work ethic. He stressed the importance of being not only physically capable but also mentally endowed: “He was a voracious reader, prolific writer, and consummate academic (King, 2013).” His moral personality complemented well with his outdoorsman nature, as it was shown that he was among the very first presidents who emphasizes the importance of taking care of the country’s environment by establishing the first federally protected natural reserves and parks. Other aspects of his moral personality became major threats to a large graft and corrupt culture that was prevalent in his times. Diplomatically and militarily, although derived from the most foundational conceptions of maintaining power, Roosevelt embedded the concept of “silent power” or “peace through strength” into the diplomatic and militaristic cultures of the United States when he stressed the importance of “speaking softly but carrying a big stick”. For Daniel, according to his mentor, he did possess similar qualities: he was seen as a team player, he placed the values of the organization over his own interests, and he was known to never to hesitate to be accountable for his own actions and for the actions of his subordinates. He was seen as an adaptive type of person, willing to change his methods according to the volatility of the environment, but one thing he did have an issue with was showing enough confidence and trust in his subordinates to handle tasks. His mentor inferred different occasions where he neglected some of his own duties to handle the duties that were meant for his subordinates, due to a feeling of concern for his subordinates. In other words, he felt as if he were protecting them from mundane tasks. In order to get the best out of his team, Roosevelt was never afraid to hand someone the responsibility of leading, thereby increasing his follower’s confidence and competence at completing the tasks.
