Teddy wanted to expand the American military. He knew that the country to be able to hold their safety as long as the military was large enough. One of Roosevelt’s ships were bombed and they suspected it was spain, therefore leading to war. The war took place and overall Roosevelt won the battle. The Panama Canal was then built, which saved time and took less effort to trade across the seas.
