The Progressive, or Bull Moose, Party was started by Theodore Roosevelt and was splintered off from the Republican Party. They believed in expanding and protecting worker's rights, including establishing a minimum wage and making it a living wage, and ending child labor. They also believed in giving women the right to vote.
The Progressive Party was also in favor of environmental conservation. Theodore Roosevelt wanted the government to protect national parks rather than allow them to be privately owned. On the issue of national defense, they were in favor of having peaceful means for settling international conflicts and supported an international agreement to limit naval forces.
The Libertarian Party is heavily focused on personal freedom and self-ownership. They believe in protecting our 4th Amendment rights by repealing the Patriot Act, which gives the government the power to spy on citizens in the interest of national security. They also believe that the government should stay out of personal relationships and abortion, leaving that decision up to the individual. Libertarians also oppose capital punishment.
