Zane’s Trace, by Allan Wolf is a book about a teenager named Zane. In a determined mindset, Zane takes his brother’s car to get to Zanesville, Ohio, where he plans to take his own life on his family's grave site. Along the way he meets Libba Ration, who later turns out to be his mother’s spirit, and she leads him through his past. Zach, his brother shows up in the end, and after learning his ancestry and takes Zane home. The past is what makes us is one theme that occurs in three places: when Zane loses a penny in the baseboard of his room, when he explains to Libba his mother’s story, and when he talks to his mother at her grave site.
